Dr. Markin has practiced orthodontics exclusively in the Columbia, Maryland area since 1972. He received his B.S. Degree in Biology from the University of Maryland in 1962 and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the university’s dental school in 1966. After practicing general dentistry for four years, he spent two years at Loyola University of Chicago where he received his specialty certificate in Orthodontics and his Master’s Degree in Oral Biology in 1972. Dr. Markin established his Columbia practice that same year.
Dr. Markin is an active participant in a number of associations related to his field. Besides being a member of four orthodontic study clubs, he is past president of the Howard County Dental Association and the Maryland State Society of Orthodontics. He is also on the faculty of the Orthodontic Department of the University of Maryland Dental School.
Dr. Markin is not only certified by the American Board of Orthodontics but has been re-certified to show continued competence. He has been awarded fellowship in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists, distinctions bestowed on him by his colleagues. Additionally, Dr. Markin is one of nine national Councilors of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics. Lastly, he is a member of the Schulman Study Group, which is limited to 125 top orthodontic practitioners in the country.
In his free time, Dr. Markin enjoys teaching, traveling, golfing, and photography.
